Edith Can Shoot Things and Hit Them by A. Ray Pamatmat explores the lives of two siblings, Edith and Kenny, whose mother has died of cancer and father has all but abandoned them. With both their parents essentially out of the picture, they have been forced to grow up too quickly. When Kenny begins to explore a romantic relationship with his classmate Benji and Edith gets into some trouble, they are forced to deal with the realities of an adult world without having parental figures to guide them, while still trying to hang onto their childhood despite their father failing them. This is not a comforting play; Edith and Kenny don’t really feel safe anywhere, not even in their own home, and the lighting reflected that primarily through the use of color with harsh blues and ambers. The two siblings find more comfort in themselves and Benji than any location, and the lighting shifted to a more gentle feel during these rare moments of calm and tranquility in each other’s company.
