Meta’s large event space, known as the Museum, is a 20,000 sqft venue that can seat up to 2,000 people at full capacity. It can be divided into seven different configurations using airwalls; for example, an event can take up the Museum’s full space, or it can be broken up into halves for the general session and a demo fair, or into one half for an event’s main session and two quads for breakouts. The Museum hosts anywhere from several events a month to multiple events in the same week.

As the Lighting Head of Department, Sonya oversees all design, technology, training, processes, and documentation for the Museum. She works with internal clients and external vendors to match creative branding and craft an environment that fulfills the unique vision for each event. She also works as a creative consultant on the creative process throughout the entire lifecycle of the event and ensures that the technology is sufficient to meet the demand.

The Museum at Meta

In 2024, Sonya worked with integrators to spec, redesign, and retrofit a multimillion-dollar lighting package in the Museum consisting of over 700 new and existing fixtures. Using the 3D model of the Museum that she created in Vectorworks, Sonya designed a plot using new top of the line fixtures, improving on the existing strengths of the original design while solving repeated issues that arose during events over the years.  After finishing the design, Sonya oversaw the integrator’s installation, ensuring the design was implemented correctly and on time.

In addition to the Museum, Sonya also oversees the design and training of the other event spaces across Meta’s Bay Area campuses. She has overseen the design of 10+ event spaces across four campuses and developed standards for lighting looks and showfiles. In her time at Meta, Sonya has developed a training program for technicians to learn ETC Eos programming, including writing out curriculum and documentation.
